The never before told story of ONAYA

The heart of Bali has an enigmatic charm. Creating ONAYA Resort here was ambitious. It was a journey marked by destiny, a convergence of paths no one could have predicted. This story is about Fabio and Ana. They are from Portugal and Spain. Each came to Bali by their unique desires. But, they found their fates intertwined in a tale of love and dreams. My name is Debby, and I am part of this story which woven by chance and choice, and witnessed the birth of ONAYA from its start. Let me tell you about it.

What are the chances that two strangers land on an island on the same day? They meet a month later and find their fates linked.

Fabio is from Portugal and Ana is from Spain. Each landed in Bali on their own quest. But, their paths crossed in a destiny-defining moment one month later. They met in Canggu, against the backdrop of a breathtaking sunset, and from that day, they never parted. Their story shows the luck of life. It unfolded fast, like a Balinese storm. It turned a lucky meeting into a shared mission.

Can you believe the depth of trust and daring it takes to redefine your life's course in four days?

Their saga, rich with courage and a united dream, moved me. Fabio introduced me to his and Ana’s whirlwind of adventure and passion, and shortly after that, I met Ana. The bond between us was sealed over a New Year’s dinner, marking not the start of a year but the beginning of ONAYA. Four days after their fateful meeting, they were sure in their decision. They chose to lay down roots together in Bali. It was a leap of faith that led them—and me—down an extraordinary path.

What does it take to turn a vision of paradise into reality? This is amidst cultural and linguistic barriers.

The journey of creating ONAYA was a mosaic of challenges and discoveries. I watched Fabio and Ana build their dream in Bali. They overcame language barriers and blended visions into reality. It was nothing short of inspiring. Their approach was marked by patience and enthusiasm. They turned every hurdle into a step closer to our shared dream.

How do you integrate a new venture into the heart of a community with deep-rooted traditions?

Creating ONAYA was more than building. It was about embedding in the Balinese way of life. Fabio and Ana were committed to respecting and learning from the local culture. Their journey was one of humility and connection. It ensured that ONAYA would become a cherished part of Uluwatu. It would not be a foreign imposition.

Facing the unpredictable elements of nature and logistics, how do you keep a dream alive?

The path to bringing ONAYA to life was full of logistical dances and tough challenges. Each day tested our resolve. Yet, our vision and the strength of Fabio and Ana’s relationship did this. They turned potential setbacks into chances for creativity and growth.

Reflecting on this incredible journey to create ONAYA, my heart is full of gratitude. I went from dreaming of Bali to joining this amazing family. It has shown the power of dreams, determination, and the magic of unity.

What does it mean to be part of something bigger than a project? It becomes a symbol of hope and connection.

ONAYA is more than a resort. It’s a beacon of collaboration and a home for those who seek peace and connection. It’s a manifestation of a shared vision. Being in the ONAYA family has been an honour. It has been a journey that shows the essence of Bali and the spirit of belonging. Our story is a reminder. When diverse minds and hearts come together, the impossible becomes possible. They create a haven that reflects the beauty of teamwork and the allure of Bali.
